Through the Department of the Environment’s Arbor Day Every Day program, facilitated by NDC, both Croom Vocational High School and Frederick Douglass High School were able to implement tree plantings on their campuses.
In addition to increased canopy on school grounds, in support of the Department of Public Works & Transportation’s Right Tree Right Place Program, NDC created street tree planting and removal plans for nine different neighborhoods in council district nine, Prince George’s County.
1,147 street trees planted in one year
450 dangerous trees were removed
17 trees and 28 shrubs planted at two schools
NDC created a food forest design that engaged students in environmental education and the healthy benefits of native species
More than 30 students gained hands-on experience and knowledge of the importance of trees in the built environment
