Restoring Stormwater Pond Habitats to Their Native Glory

Slide 1 of 7

Since 2015, NDC has partnered with the Department of Public Works & Transportation to renovate and beautify community stormwater ponds that have silted in or become overgrown with vegetation. DPW&T restored multiple ponds in Wyndham Woods / West
Laurel Acres and Victoria Falls / Pines of Laurel between 2016 and 2019. This restoration included the removal of invasive species and accumulated sediment.

    • NDC worked with both communities to design planting plans for the ponds that restored habitat, provided screening, and beautified the ponds

    • 100% of proposed plants are native species

    • NDC incorporated the communities’ requests (such as flowering evergreens) into native species plantings that are suited for the local environment and aid in stormwater intervention.

    • Barkham Court pond in Wyndham Woods received over 180 shrubs and 2400 perennials and grasses.
181 shrubs and 2400 perennials/wetland grasses planted at Wyndham Woods Stormwater Pond.

    • Three ponds designed for Victoria Falls, including 22 new native trees
