This World Town Planning Day, We're Showcasing Waverly Main Street

This World Town Planning Day, we’re proud to showcase our community partner, Waverly Main Street, demonstrating the great things that happen when planners and community members come together to shape the future.

Our approach to community planning is all about doing the work alongside the communities we support, walking the neighborhood with our dedicated partners like Waverly Main Street. Being able to truly grasp what’s important to a community organization requires us to go out into the community and listen.

We have had a longstanding partnership with the neighborhoods in and around Waverly dating back to 1971, during which we have successfully completed more than 70 projects. Most recently we supported the Growing Greenmount Small Business Challenge by creating storefronts for four new retail businesses who are receiving one year free rent and technical assistance. And in 2022 we developed a facade design for the historic Boulevard Theatre and a sign, lighting, and branding program for the historic Waverly Town Hall in the Abell community.

Waverly Main Street knows the value of hearing insights from community members who have lived in and helped shape the neighborhood for decades. By walking the neighborhood, grabbing coffee, and talking with community members, we, as planners, can gain a deeper understanding of their unique needs and aspirations.

Waverly Main Street aims to build a vibrant main street while preserving the community’s rich history. By working with our partner and the community’s residents, we’re helping to ensure that the community’s stories are embedded into the community’s tapestry and enduring legacy.
